A little bit about me: I am 53, actively into my menopausal change process, am happily married, have two grown and out-of-the-house children. We live in eastern Washington on 20 acres which is half in pasture and half in woods, with a creek. We have a huge garden of tomatoes, peppers, green beans, squash, etc. which we will eat up like crazy and I will do a lot of canning for the coming year. I work as a telecommunications engineer and will be eligible to retire next year. I won't be able to afford to stop working completely, though, for probably ten more years. I am also a student in the healthcare field at my local community college to prepare for a new retirement career, so that keeps me plenty busy. I lost 50 pounds on Atkins 5 years ago to fit into my wedding dress. In a moment of weakness, I ate some of the wedding cake, then my addiction went crazy and I started gaining all the weight back. I've done 20-pound yo-yo thing long enough. I've been blessed with an emotional and spiritual epiphany which has lead me to a calm and quiet understanding that I need to take care of this body and I know that low carb is the only way that works for me. Started Atkins induction Apr 19, have steadily lost weight. There are many challenges but I am a natural born planner and do pretty well with it. I have perfect support from my husband and pretty darn good support from the rest of my family. There is no pressure to eat anything at all and they are fine and dandy with me bringing my own separate food. For this I am truly grateful. I work out of two offices, one is close to home and the other is 2 hours away. I stay overnight at the farther one, usually for 2 to 3 days at a time. I have a private office there and have bought my own fridge and microwave, plus I stay at the same Inn every time which has the same. I make all my food up the night before going out of town and pack the cooler in the morning. Then I only eat what I bring. This has meant a lot of self discipline for me but it really pays off in a low stress and happy work life. Plus I get a total break from cooking for a couple of days!!
